Resources on Cutting Your Own Hair

Santana Someone Like You
All of these sites have helped me cut my own hair! I now cut my own hair and bangs and haven't gone to a salon in over a year. Of course, I do have a very simple style (straight, heavy bangs and long, layered, wavy hair).

How to easily give yourself layered hair--

How to trim the ends of your hair--

How to check that it is all straight once you have trimmed it--

I can't find one source that I really follow for cutting my own bangs. I just pull the rest of my hair back in a low ponytail, put forward the bangs I want to cut, look in the mirror and cut them going VERY SLOWLY (half inch across cuts at a time) to make sure it's good.

To cut my own hair I basically do the layered ponytail method listed first, then the trim the ends straight across method listed second, then brush my hair forward over my shoulder and trim off any weird ends, then look at the back of my head in the mirror and see any weird ends hanging down and grab them, pull them over my shoulder, and trim the weird ends off. All of this creates normal looking long layered hair for no cost!

I'll post pictures of my hair sometime when I am wearing makeup and am not feeling lazy, haha.

I like Taylor Swift fine, but this was TOO GOOD not to link! (It's funny because it's true!)

This illustration is courtesy of this pretty funny Taylor Swift critique.

Children's Book Recommendation

Seated Bather
Anything by Leo Lionni!

I borrowed this book from my mom-in-law that has six of his stories in it to read the kids, and I love it so much! The stories are really deep and thoughtful, but still appropriate for the little ones. The illustrations are what make them really special. They are all really dense and colorful and stylized. Here are a few examples of his illustrations:

He has just become my favorite children's book author (if by children's books you mean picture books to read aloud).

The Song of Wandering Aengus-- W.B. Yeats

Seated Bather

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.

When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.

Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.
